What is grounding and what are the benefits?

What is grounding? Grounding is a technique used to help manage anxiety or overwhelming emotions. It involves focusing on the present moment and using your senses to connect with your surroundings in a way that helps you feel more grounded and centered.

How to ground? To ground yourself, you can follow these steps:

  • Find a quiet and comfortable place to sit or stand outside barefoot.

  • Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.

  • Visualize roots growing from the bottom of your feet into the ground.

  • Imagine the energy of the earth flowing up through your roots and into your body.

  • Focus on the feeling of being connected to the earth and allow yourself to feel grounded and centered.

  • Take a few more deep breaths before opening your eyes and returning to your day.

    Benefits of grounding. Grounding exercises can help individuals manage stress, anxiety, and overwhelming emotions. Some potential benefits of grounding exercises include:

  • Reducing feelings of anxiety and panic

  • Helping individuals feel more present and connected to the present moment

  • Providing a sense of safety and stability
